Sister’s Story

In 2015, inspired by the vibrant spirit of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a dedicated group in Spokane, Washington formed the Lilac City Sisters. Their mission was clear: to serve their community through activism, advocacy, and spreading joy and acceptance, all while adorned in iconic nun habits and vibrant makeup.

Despite numerous challenges, the Lilac City Sisters persevered, organizing events, fundraisers, and outreach programs to support marginalized groups and promote love and inclusivity. However, after several years of struggling to gain traction and facing internal conflicts, the Lilac City Sisters reassessed their mission within the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence network. In 2019, they decided to part ways with the organization and rebranded as Our Lady of the Lilacs, continuing their impactful work independently.

Now, in 2024, the Spokane Falls Sisters have been establishing their collaboration with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, setting up a mission house in Spokane. In service with Spokane Pride and other community allies, they are collaboratively launching the Pride History and Remembrance Project during Pride week as well as the 50 year anniversary of Expo 74". This exciting initiative brings both Sister groups together to celebrate their history and continue their shared mission, echoing the collaborative spirit of the Sisters of Providence and the Ursuline Sisters.

The Spokane Falls Sisters, Abbey of The Children of the Sun, are committed to honoring the legacy of their predecessors while forging their own path. Recognizing the need for a Sisters house in Spokane, they embrace their role with renewed dedication. With community support, they revitalized the mission, reinvigorating the spirit of love, acceptance, and activism that initially inspired them.

As they continue their work, the Spokane Falls Sisters will honor the memory and contributions of those who came before them, learning from their journey. United in their commitment to serve the community, all while spreading love, joy, happiness, compassion, and inclusivity wherever they go.
